Tripoli Road Parking Lot Etiquette

The Central New Hampshire Climbers’ Association is excited to share that the new parking lot off Tripoli Road is officially opening on May 23rd @ 9am. After years of planning, coordination, and hands-on work, this new access point is ready to serve the community and provide a more sustainable way to reach some of the area’s most valued climbing destinations: Merriam Woods (Russell Crag) in the Town of Woodstock, Russell Forest within the White Mountain National Forest, and Storybrooke.

The parking lot is located approximately one mile east of the forest gate on Tripoli Road.

This project is a direct result of strong community support. From local businesses to volunteers and partners who contributed along the way, this effort reflects what is possible when people come together around a shared goal: protecting access while improving the experience for everyone.

As more people discover and enjoy these areas, thoughtful use of this new space will be key to keeping it available long-term.

  • We ask that all visitors follow Leave No Trace principles: pack in, pack out, and come prepared. That includes carrying out everything you bring with you, including human waste.

  • Visitors should also stay on established foot paths to help prevent additional erosion and damage to the surrounding area.

  • The lot has been designed to help reduce roadside congestion and improve safety, so if it happens to be full, please park at the gate or plan to visit at another time. The Forest Service has asked that if the lot is full, please do not park on Tripoli Road, both for safety and out of respect for the nearby private landowners who help make access possible in this region.

This new lot is an exciting step forward for the climbing community in central New Hampshire. With a shared commitment to stewardship and respect, it will help ensure these areas remain accessible and enjoyable for years to come.

We’ll see you out there!
